The Composer
Caomhán Maccana is a composer and producer from the Irish borderlands. Shaped by his work in film, radio, and live performance, he creates cinematic piano music coloured by both Celtic and classical traditions.
Over the past two decades, Maccana has worked on productions with the BBC, RTÉ, and Newstalk, receiving his most recent award at the 2025 Celtic Media Festival in Cornwall. His work has taken him across Ireland, the UK, the USA, Estonia, and Mexico, including an Arts Council-supported collaboration at the Conservatorio de las Rosas in Morelia, the oldest music institution in Latin America.
The Live Experience
The concert features all original works by the composer, including celebrated scores such as:
- Tras el Invierno
- Athrú
- Ven a Mí
- Tonnta Dé
These sit alongside new music developed during a residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, including the title piece ‘The Unseen Growth of Winter’ and ‘Éan’, written in memory of Moya Brennan of Clannad.
The 2026 Album
‘Maccana, Live in Lady Guthrie’s Drawing Room’
This newly released 2026 album presents his scores and compositions in an intimate recital setting, capturing the raw acoustic beauty of an early 20th-century grand piano.
