Ryley Jamison’s time with The Playhouse’s Next Stage Programme has been transformative, offering unmatched opportunities to develop as a writer and theatre-maker. For Ryley, the programme has been about more than just honing skills; it has been about building the self-belief needed to thrive as an artist.

Taking part in the front-and-centre festivities for Scratch allowed Ryley to present work alongside other amazing artists, providing a newfound confidence. That momentum led to a deeply fulfilling opportunity to co-write Home with Nandi Jola. Showcased in schools across the Derry and Strabane area, the project was a crucial learning experience. Ryley said: “The process taught me so much about the reevaluation process of writing and has helped immensely when approaching other projects.”

Beyond the writing itself, the Next Stage workshops connected Ryley with a wider network of local creatives, helping to flesh out what it means to be an artist in this country. These connections have furthered Ryley’s career and forged important new friendships.

The support culminated in The Playhouse providing a platform to showcase Save The Canteen, a play Ryley wrote with a best friend. The opportunity has been an absolute gift for their emerging work, allowing them to take real steps into the industry.
